Green Tip of the Month:
“How to give back to the environment this holiday season”
During the holidays the amount of garbage in the US generally increases by 25% from 4 million to 5 million tons per week. To help reduce your waste and save on energy, below are a few simple steps to get you started this holiday season:
•    When using candles this season choose soy based candles. Soy candles are made from a renewable resource and are biodegradable. They emit no carcinogens and burn much cleaner then paraffin based candles.
•    Real or Fake? When choosing the perfect tree this season consider buying a real tree. Artificial trees are most likely made from petroleum based products which will likely end sitting in a landfill for years to come. Real trees produce oxygen, can be recycled, and if bought with the roots intact can be replanted after the holidays.
•    When putting up decorative lights try replacing your old string of lights with LED lights. Initially they cost a few extra dollars but in the long run you save on your electric bill because LED lights reduce energy use by 90%. Also you never have to replace a burnt out bulb again!
