From the Director’s Chair - September 2008 by Grace Souter

September 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

It seems incredible that summer is gone and September is already here.  2008’s summer season absolutely passed in a flash, leaving us wondering where the time went!  One thing is for sure – although the summer is coming to a close, things are far from slowing down here at Spa Koru!  In fact, we are staring down a Fall line-up jam-packed with dozens of happenings and events with everything from Yoga Retreats to a Fashion Show! In addition, for those of you who have conceded your fitness routine to the summer grind, now is the perfect time to get back into the swing of things.
There is something about Autumn that brings about a sense of community. Perhaps it is the kids returning to school, and the after school activities that bring people together.  Or it could be the approaching holiday season which creates warmth among neighbors.  For whatever reason, the cooler weather seems to bring a feeling of togetherness and appreciation for community that accompanies no other season in quite the same way. At Spa Koru our regard for our community is significant, and part of our focus this Fall is to create events that engage our residents while stimulating the local economy.  Check our lobby and our website often for upcoming events as well as information on how to register! Kristi Davidson, Assistant Director of Programming and Events has outlined many of these events in this issue of the Spiral Up! Newsletter – be sure to check out the “Up Next” section by Kristi! Another objective is to create a greater awareness of environmental and ecological concerns and issues within our community, and to encourage individuals to take steps toward establishing a more sustainable environment within both our local and global communities.
At Spa Koru, we have made “going green” our mission for the past several months.  We use organic cleaning products throughout the spa, as well as organic products in all of our Spa treatments, and in many of our Salon treatments.  Virtually all of our retail items are made from organic ingredients and/or handcrafted using organic materials.  We provide an in-house recycling bin for water bottles, and strive to eliminate waste and excess whenever and wherever possible.  Keep an eye out for some more exciting “green” initiatives here at Spa Koru in the coming months! Also, we will be featuring a “green tip of the month” in our newsletters from here one out – check out “What’s New at the Spa” by Dana Michael for this month’s tip on how to lower your electric bill! Spa Koru is implementing these tips within the Spa as well, so together we can help the Outer Banks reduce its ecological footprint!
