From the Director’s Chair by Joe Thompson

May 5th, 2008 · No Comments

Spring is a time of renewal and rebirth. Whether it is planting in your garden or cleaning the grill to enjoy the great outdoors. Here at Spa Koru we have been busy preparing a “rebirth” of our own. For those of you who do not know the story of “Koru” it is an ancient symbol that means “new beginnings, renewal, harmony, peace, and tranquility”

What better way to celebrate emergence from winter and arrival to spring than a visit to Spa Koru and Hatteras Island. Upon arrival you will be greeted by a number of new changes. For starters your sense of smell will be delighted by our addition of a coffee grinder and brewing station. We now serve fresh organic coffee in our lobby from “Carolina Coffee Co.” as well as bags of the beans to take home. Next you will notice that the lobby is completely remodeled. We have added more “root” furniture to lounge in and our retail manager, Dana Michael, has been busy ordering fresh new ideas to tempt the shopper inside you. From colorful “Spa Koru” wear to our new organic yoga line “Yoga Tribe and Culture” we have the treads that combine the perfect balance of style and comfort. Don’t miss out on new skin care offerings from “Burt’s Bees” to our ever popular and always expanding line of Eminence organic skin care. Ms. Dana has also included a line of gift baskets that are perfect for any occasion from weddings to birthdays.
The lobby is just the beginning of the renewal commitment. Our entire menu has changed. We are very proud of our previous menu and you will see some signature treatments that have made their way onto the new menu. We made a collective decision in 2007 to go as “green and organic” as possible. The new menu features new facials featuring Eminence, a new signature massage, fresh new body treatments (try the “Cup of Joe Coffee Scrub” followed by our Silver Fern massage!), new Journeys, Teen menu and much more. We have even added fresh herbs to the meditation garden that we will be using in some of the new treatments.
When it comes to the friendly faces you have come to love at Spa Koru we have many of the same from last season and some new faces as well. In the salon you will notice Amanda and Venus have joined Teresa and Chloe along with Meredith having accomplished her nail technician’s license. Down the whisper zone you will be greeted by Jamie and Marilyn who have joined Joshua, Meredith, Josh and Stacie. In the category of fitness Kristi has brought her professional dance career to our group exercise schedule to join our other popular classes. And yoga is growing. Look for SKY news (Spa Koru Yoga) regarding new classes and amazing retreats and workshops. Ms. Bonnie, our head attendant, keeps the facility looking brand new and we have recently changed our cleaning products to an all organic line. Last but not least there is my management team which I assembled this past winter. Lynn Mancini our marketing director, Dana Michael leads front desk and retail, and Grace Souter our assistant director.
And if that were not enough to take your breath away, we have completely redesigned and launched a new website. Check it all out at www.spakoru.com

We look forward to your next visit to Spa Koru. Until then, make the most of each and everyday and don’t forget to breathe!
